Rose L. Williams

Artist member since 2023

Vancouver, British Columbia

Rose L. Williams is a mixed media artist working with Nature’s chemistry based in Vancouver BC, Canada. Her early career in photography is the grounding for her mixed media Nature themed paintings and textiles. My artworks & pigments are created from Botanicals in my environment. I am inspired by intimate encounters with plants & animals, and identify with their fragility, resilience and evanescence. As a BIPOC I navigate complex social spaces. As an artist with a disability, my journey explores the strength in vulnerability. When you feel trapped in your own body, Art made in partnership with Nature brings a sense of freedom and grace.

When I'm not making art, I'm (a) ...

Wandering aimlessly through the Pacific Northwest Coast Rainforest with my number 1 Art Assistant Cobalt the Moyen Poodle taking photos and sustainably foraging for Botanicals & Fungi

When did you start making art, and why?

I was a 'sick kid' with asthma and would often wake at night with an urgency to capture my dream in a painting. Pulling my desk away from the wall and painting upon the side of it as if I had an easel. I felt compelled to draw my thoughts and feelings as a way to express myself.

During my breaks, I tend to ...

Take Poodle for a walk through our local Community Garden where both of us become rejuvenated by the sights and smells of the trees, leaves, fruits and flowers. And yes, maybe you will hear me singing...

How long have you been creating art?

56 years! I had the blessing of mentors in Art and Music at a young age, won a Logo contest and some $$ at age 16 and never looked back.
